Nicolas Carr
Nicolas Carr is Director of Choral Studies at Shawnee Heights High School, Tecumseh, Kansas. He is also the current director of the Topeka Youth Symphony, Topeka, Kansas, Shawnee Choral Society, Topeka, Kansas, and Laudate Ringers, Topeka, Kansas. He holds a Master of Music Education, Choral Conducting emphasis from Kansas State University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Washburn University.
Carr has 20 years of experience directing musical groups including band, strings, handbells, choral groups and barbershop ensembles. Carr specializes in choral and instrumental conducting, music theory and history, and the impact of social emotional development on the music classroom.
Carr’s recent recognition includes USD 450 Most Inspirational Teacher (2022), USD 450 commencement keynote address (2023), Shawnee Heights High School’s Most Admirable Teacher (2024) and Kansas Music Educators Association Northeast District High School Choral Director of the Year (2024).
Carr’s primary instruments are trumpet and voice (baritone).
