We have some fabulous new resources on the www.ksmea.org site that are designed to help new music teachers. These resources are the result of a lot of hard work by the Teacher Recruitment and Retention Committee of KMEA, headed up by Chris Richmond of Wamego and Holly Taylor of Wichita.
1. New Teacher Handbook - tons of useful advice, forms, dates, etc. posted by people who have "been there". This info is so good it is of value to any teacher, regardless of experience. Here is the link - www.ksmea.org/mentoring/handbook
2. Mentor signup page - if you would like to have a mentor, someone you can call or e-mail when you need ideas or "help!!!", this is a great resource. It only takes a minute to sign up and it could be your "lifeline" for the school year. If you are a veteran music teacher, you can sign up on this page to be a mentor for someone else. link here - www.ksmea.org/mentoring/applications.php
Finally, if you need help, don't be afraid to ask. If you can give help, don't be too busy to give it. If you know of new music teachers in your schools, please let me know. Together, we can fight "music teacher burnout". Thanks for all that you do.
